As part of International Human Rights Day on 10 December, the Bilkent Center for Human Rights hosted a panel titled “Legal and Administrative Mechanisms for the Protection of the Human Rights of Persons with Disabilities.”
The event addressed the challenges faced by persons with disabilities in everyday life, rights-based approaches, and available administrative and legal remedies. The panel was moderated by Prof. Dr. Ece Göztepe, faculty member of Bilkent University Faculty of Law and a member of the Board of the Bilkent Center for Human Rights.
Speakers included:
• Senior Expert Ayşe Zararsız from the Ombudsman Institution, with a presentation titled “The Role of the Ombudsman in the Protection of Disability Rights”
• Assoc. Prof. Dilşad Çiğdem Sever from Ankara University Faculty of Law, with a presentation titled “Obligations of the Administration in Light of the Decisions and General Comments of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”
• Attorney Arzu Şenyurt Akdağ from the Disability Rights Commission of the Union of Turkish Bar Associations, with a presentation titled “The Practical Impact of Judicial Decisions in the Field of Disability Rights”
